Announcing the GMF Hope Fund
Just as the Ukrainian people are providing the world a daily lesson in courage, defiance and the value of freedom, it is our duty to provide them with hope.
Giving the people of Europe hope was the essential mission of the Marshall Plan 75 years ago as Europe struggled to overcome the devastation and deprivation following the Second World War. As an organization created as a living memorial to the Marshall Plan, we understand the power of hope.
Russia’s war in Ukraine, a war that we have condemned in the strongest possible terms, is the largest land war in Europe since the end of the Second World War. It has caused the largest refugee crisis in Europe also not seen since the end of the Second World War. It is a war on democratic values and the dignity of the individual. It is also a direct attack on the people who are integral to the GMF family—our civil society grantees, our past and current Marshall Memorial Fellows and participants in leadership programs, members of staff and their families, and all who care about democracy and the right to freely choose their form of government and alliances.
We must again provide hope.
Inspired by members of our community who have stepped forward with offers of assistance and support, we are making, for the first time in our institution's history, an appeal to the global GMF community to make a financial contribution to the GMF Hope Fund.
Inspired by members of our community who have stepped forward with offers of assistance and support, we are making, for the first time in our institution's history, an appeal to the global GMF community to make a financial contribution to the GMF Hope Fund. In the truest spirit of the Marshall Plan, and because the need is so great, we are creating this opportunity to support and give hope to our GMF colleagues who have been affected by the war and are, at the same time, working so hard to sustain civil society in Ukraine and the region. The GMF Hope Fund will provide urgent assistance, including funds for emergency evacuation and relocation support, to our civil society grantees, fellows, and alumni who have become victims of the conflict and who require support above and beyond what our current donors provide.
I ask you today to participate in this endeavor by visiting here, selecting ‘GMF Hope Fund’ as your designation, and making your donation. Every contribution will bring hope to those affected by the conflict.
We hope that you will join us.
Thank you from all of us at GMF for your generosity and your commitment to give hope to those in need.
In solidarity and with great hope,
Heather A. Conley
