Sam duPont

Sam duPont is deputy director of Digital Innovation and Democracy Initiative, which develops policy strategies to foster innovation and ensure that technology strengthens democracy. Sam helps oversee both the Initiative’s research agenda, as well as its efforts to convene a broad community of experts to advance digital policy solutions on both sides of the Atlantic and around the world.

Previously, Sam served as director for Digital Trade at the office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), where he contributed to the formulation and implementation of digital trade policy through bilateral negotiations, multilateral institutions, and other international forums. His work addressed a range of trade policy issues, including those related to cross-border data flows, internet and telecom services, cybersecurity, and foreign investment.

Prior to his government service, Sam worked in the nonprofit and private sectors on internet policy and projects to leverage technology in support of international development and human rights. He holds a B.A. from Tufts University and an M.P.A. from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
