Remaking Post-Industrial Cities highlights the unique experiences of several cities that have been deeply engaged in GMF’s transatlantic urban policy work.  From 2013 to 2015, GMF collaborated with the Remaking Cities Institute to select several of the case study cities, recruit the authors from GMF’s network and engage with the authors during the development of the book.  In particular GMF was responsible for engaging four out of five European cases of Rotterdam, Turin, Bilbao, and Germany’s Ruhr region.

Embedded within the book is a framework for comparative, transatlantic analysis of post-industrial cities – a core element of GMF’s decade old Urban and Regional Policy program.  From the Detroit-Torino Partnership and the Cities in Transition Network to BUILD, GMF has a robust history of working with local and regional leaders to uncover innovative urban solutions and adapt those solutions to the context of other cities.
