After nearly three years at the helm of GMF, President Heather A. Conley has announced that she will step back from her leadership role. She will assume new duties as a senior adviser to the board of trustees.

GMF Senior Vice President for Geostrategy, Alexandra de Hoop Scheffer, will serve as acting president alongside existing Chief Operating Officer Jared Janeczko.

“We thank Heather for her significant contributions, which advanced GMF’s mission, particularly its work on Ukraine’s recovery, defending democracy and strengthening NATO at a critical juncture,” notes GMF Board Chair Christopher Schroeder.

With more than 20 years of experience in international and transatlantic relations, including 12 years of leadership at GMF, de Hoop Scheffer has been instrumental in shaping GMF’s strategic direction. Janeczko, with 11 years of leadership at CARE USA that included significant international integrations, will be de Hoop Scheffer’s partner in leading global operations.

Schroeder adds: “We are very grateful for Alexandra and Jared’s continued leadership at GMF. Their rare combination of experience, insight, and commitment to the shared values and leadership of Europe and the United States is unparalleled. In a time of great global uncertainty, their and their teams’ steady hands will allow GMF to have its greatest policy impact.”
