The German Marshall Fund mourns the death of Hans-Jürgen Beerfeltz (MMF ‘85), who died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 following a serious illness. Mr. Beerfeltz leaves behind his wife and daughter, to whom GMF sends its condolences.

The German Marshall Fund mourns the death of Hans-Jürgen Beerfeltz (MMF ‘85), who died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 following a serious illness. Mr. Beerfeltz leaves behind his wife and daughter, to whom GMF sends its condolences.

A lifelong steward of transatlantic affairs, Mr. Beerfeltz served as a leader of Germany’s FDP (Free Democratic Party), as well as the Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Mr. Beerfeltz was an active participant in policy debates at GMF conferences such as Brussels Forum. He traveled as a Marshall Memorial Fellow (MMF) in 1985, and remained a lifelong supporter of the program.
