WASHINGTON, DC — The Board of Trustees of The German Marshall Fund of the United States elected Robin West as chair on May 10, 2018. West, managing director of The Boston Consulting Group, has served as co-chair since 2012. “I have had the good fortune to work closely with Robin West over the past four years. I am so pleased to have him devoting his wonderful talents and impressive experience to making GMF stronger and more relevant to the challenges facing transatlantic relations today,” said GMF President Karen Donfried.

Marc Leland stepped down as co-chair after having served on GMF's Board for 34 years. The entire organization expressed its gratitude to Leland for his remarkable dedication to GMF and the Board elected him to the status of chairman emeritus, a distinction held only by GMF Founder and long-time chair, Guido Goldman.

The Board also elected Marc Grossman as vice chair and welcomed new trustee, Amanda Bennett. Other new trustees include John Emerson, who joined the Board in February 2018, and Janet Lamkin, who will join in October 2018. Grossman, vice chairman of The Cohen Group, served previously as under secretary of state for political affairs and U.S. Ambassador to Turkey. Bennett is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and investigative journalist, who currently serves as director of voice of America. Emerson serves as vice chairman at Capital Group International and is the former U.S. Ambassador to Germany. Lamkin is United Airlines president of California and previously served as president of Bank of America California.
