About this event

This January, GMF Berlin is launching Transatlantic Tuesdays to weigh in on the 2020 U.S. presidential election over the course of the year. Every month, we will bring together American and European voices to analyze the latest trends in Washington and to comment on their potential consequences for transatlantic cooperation. Following their brief statements (15 minutes in total), we will engage in a lively discussion over beer and pretzels.

On January 21, Transatlantic Tuesdays will kick off as the 2020 U.S. presidential election campaign is already in full swing. Voter enthusiasm is high among both Republicans and Democrats. But Americans are more divided than at any point in recent history. What to expect from a Democratic Party that is increasingly split into progressives and moderates? Can President Trump keep up his popularity as he faces impeachment at home and continues to provoke foreign countries to question America’s reliability?

Juliane Schäuble, U.S. Correspondent Der Tagesspiegel, together with GMF fellows Jonathan Katz and Peter Sparding will join us via zoom from Washington, DC. Sudha David-Wilp, Senior Transatlantic Fellow and Deputy Director of GMF’s Berlin office will react.

Please RSVP via email to Elisabeth Winter.
