About this event

Transatlantic economic relations are preparing for impact. US President Donald Trump has threatened tariff action against Europe to address a range of grievances: a trade deficit, EU tariffs on American autos, value added taxes, Greenland, Big Tech regulation, and carbon taxes. Europe is weighing its options for responding. They include using new trade tools to fight this perceived economic coercion.

Economic and security interests have long been intertwined, but investment and trade relationships are now used as cudgels. Competitiveness remains important, but tariffs could impact other economic priorities.

Dynamic and bold leadership can confront the challenges posed by digitalization, decarbonization, and geopolitics, and lead the global order in a new direction. But who could offer such leadership? Or has a new era of hard-power conflicts among regional blocs irreversibly begun?

Speakers will highlight the key milestones in upcoming trade and tax actions in the United States and Europe, and discuss the impact of recent transatlantic tensions on investment, trade, and jobs. They will also address the implications of threatened tariffs for individual countries, the transatlantic relationship, and the global trading system.
