About this event
Republicans are struggling with the legacy of former president Donald Trump who, despite his 2020 loss, still holds considerable sway and remains the preeminent figure within the GOP. While he has not announced that he will seek reelection in 2024, Trump has endorsed and actively supported several candidates this primary season. However, his seal of approval did not turn out to be a guarantee for winning—so far it has been a mixed bag. This raises several questions for the future of the party and Trump’s role: Is his influence with the base diminishing? Are there viable contenders for the Republican presidential ticket in 2024? Will the party eventually discard Trump but keep Trumpism? To discuss these questions and more, we will speak with Jessica Taylor and Andrew Desiderio, experts on US domestic politics, in this month’s edition of #TransatlanticTuesdays.
