While Joe Biden begins his presidency, this online event will focus on the policy implications for Europe. The new U.S. administration will engage with partners on a variety of issues—from climate change to democratic values and digital transformation—and aim to restore trust within the alliance. Europeans will also have to better articulate their relationship with the U.S. and the deepening of European cooperation in the defense and foreign policy fields.

How will transatlantic cooperation evolve in the next four years? What are the priorities of the U.S. administration, and how will Joe Biden engage with European allies to tackle international challenges? What does a “U.S. Foreign Policy for the Middle Class” mean for the United States and Europe? To what extent will this impact intra-European choices in strategic sectors such as defense, digital and trade policy, and reshape the debate on European sovereignty? How will domestic politics and the extreme polarization influence U.S. foreign policy, especially towards Europe? What are the different scenarios regarding the future of the Republican party?
