About this event
The German Marshall Fund of the United States and the Atlantic Council are delighted to invite you to join our virtual panel discussion, “Responding to Transatlantic Challenges: The Belarus Border Crisis.” This panel discussion will explore the border crisis taking place in Belarus and how the transatlantic community can best support the EU countries bearing the brunt of this challenge. The European Union has accused Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka of fueling illegal border crossing into neighboring countries Poland, Latvia, and Lithuania in retaliation for EU sanctions. Although Lukashenka denies these accusations, the migrants stranded at the border are creating dramatic challenges for the EU and a humanitarian crisis watched by the world. This discussion will bring leaders from the region together to update the public on this crisis and discuss the next steps for the transatlantic alliance.
