The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) and its Frontlines of Democracy Initiative is pleased to invite you to a timely roundtable discussion on Turkey’s new political landscape and domestic and foreign policy challenges.

The speakers will discuss the new political landscape in Turkey as a result of the recent local elections. They will also address ongoing economic, social, and foreign policy challenges including growing anti-immigrant sentiment, Turkey’s purchase of S-400 missile defense systems from Russia, Turkish-Russian relations, prospects for Turkish-U.S. cooperation in Syria, and the escalation of tensions in the eastern Mediterranean. Have the recent elections impacted the Turkish government’s foreign policy focus? And how are the United States, NATO, EU, and other partners viewing Turkey? What do the elections results mean for Turkey’s democracy and its troubled relations with the West? Are there steps that the United States, the EU, and Turkey can take to rebuild a modicum of trust and cooperation, or will we continue to see a volatile Turkish relationship with the West that continues down a destructive path?

This roundtable discussion is part of a series of events and analyses organized as part of the GMF-TOBB Fellowship on Turkey, Europe, and Global Issues, launched by GMF in partnership with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) in 2017.
