About this event
The German Marshall Fund of the United States invites you to a timely virtual conversation with Lithuania's Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis. The foreign minister is in Washington on September 15 for high-level meetings with senior U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss U.S.-Lithuanian relations and Vilnius's role as a frontline defender against threats from Russia and Belarus. During this conversation on September 17 Foreign Minister Landsbergis will discuss in greater detail other pressing issues and key, immediate, and ongoing security challenges facing Vilnius and partners in Eastern Europe, the United States, and the transatlantic community, including Belarus and Russia. Lithuania has also been in the crosshairs of the Chinese government following Vilnius's decision to enhance relations with Taiwan. The United States and many EU member states have expressed solidarity and support for Lithuania in the face of China’s "coercive behavior." Given all of these challenges and threats to Lithuania, how can the United States and partners increase support for Vilnius? What steps are needed beyond diplomacy in Washington, Brussels, and Europe to increase stability, security, and solidarity with Lithuania and Eastern European partners given these threats?
