In an era of U.S.-China strategic competition, how will China’s relations with the rest of the world shape its future power? Drawing on travels in East Africa, Latin America, Europe, and East Asia, Luke Patey will discuss his new book, How China Loses: The Pushback Against Chinese Global Ambitions. From its Belt and Road Initiative connecting Asia to Europe, to its "Made in China 2025" strategic plan to dominate advanced industries, to its formidable military strength across the Indo-Pacific, China appears primed to become the world’s dominant superpower. But China faces considerable new risks and challenges that threaten to ground its rising power. GMF's Asia Program senior fellow Mareike Ohlberg will host the discussion.
