Chairman of the SPD group in the Bundestag, Rolf Mützenich, recently rattled the transatlantic community by suggesting that Germany should no longer host American nuclear weapons. In response, U.S. Ambassador in Warsaw, Georgette Mosbacher, suggested that the weapons could perhaps be relocated to Poland, sparking an even broader debate. Taking a step further, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a 25 percent reduction of American troops in Germany—a move which triggered heated reactions on both sides of the Atlantic regarding its implications for transatlantic deterrence posture and the role of U.S. troops based in Europe.
Join us for a conversation about the shifting dynamics within NATO and Germany’s role in the Allied defense.
