Turkey-EU relations are an old subject which has been studied from different perspectives, approaches and ideologies for almost half a century. The issue continues to be of interest due to the current socio-political climate in Turkey and other European countries, particularly with the rise of populism as a successful electoral tactic as well as radical parties becoming more powerful.

While there is an ongoing heated debate on populism, it is dominated by analysis of the past and present. This event will employ temporality as the main frame for analysis and look at possible future repercussions of the current populism in Turkey and other European countries, particularly on Turkey-EU relations. Therefore, the focus will be on possible future scenarios of Turkey-EU relations, taking the impact of populism into consideration.

This roundtable discussion is part of a series of events and analyses organized as part of the GMF-TOBB Fellowship on Turkey, Europe, and Global Issues, launched by GMF in partnership with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB).
