About this event
The outcome of the French elections will have a major impact on European security and transatlantic cooperation. On April 24, the French will choose between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen as their next president, and hence between two visions of the role France should play in the EU, in NATO, and in the world. This election readout provides perspectives on the implications for European security and transatlantic relations, focusing on the following questions: What are the priorities of France’s president in terms of security and defense in the Euro-Atlantic area? How will these priorities impact France’s stance on EU defense, NATO, and transatlantic cooperation? How will the French president address Russia’s war on Ukraine?
