About this event

How should European stakeholders think about a grand strategy and how can it be developed within a complex political entity such as the European Union? In his new book, Europe's Grand Strategy: Navigating a New World Order, Bart Szewczyk proposes a four-pronged approach that focuses on the need to strengthen the liberal order beyond narrow national interest, restore a sense of solidarity among EU member states, develop separate strategies to engage constructively with adverse actors, and clearly define Europe’s key interests in the Middle East and other parts of the world. With this approach, the author aims to lay the essential building blocks for developing a European strategy within complex and multi-stakeholder institutions.

Join us for this BOOKS@GMF event with Bart Szewcyk to discuss the outlook for a European grand strategy. Nathalie Tocchi, author of Framing the EU Global Strategy: A Stronger Europe in a Fragile World (Palgrave 2017) and principal drafter of the 2016 EU Global Strategy, will serve as commentator.
