On November 22, 2019, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the Institute of Technology and Society of Rio (ITS Rio) and PUC Rio's Legalité project will hold a dialogue on the future of cyberspace, including discussions on the EU’s approach to cyber diplomacy and its normative power in cyberspace, cooperation on cyber resilience, building autonomy in cyberspace, and prospects for cooperation between the EU and Brazil in cyber policy. The discussion will involve high-level government officials and experts from Europe and Brazil, including Ambassador Guilherme Patriota, chair of the United Nations Group of Governmental Experts in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security.

This event is part of the EU-funded EU Cyber Direct Project, which aims to support EU cyber-diplomacy efforts and contributes to the development of a secure, stable, and rights-based international order in cyberspace. The project is implemented by the EU Institute for Security Studies, Stiftung Neue Verantwortung, and the German Marshall Fund of the United States. It supports the EU’s official dialogues with strategic partners from Brazil, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and the United States, as well as regions of Latin America and the Asia-Pacific through engagement activities and research.
