About this event
The activities of trolls—one of the key executors of Russian information operations—in the virtual realm of the internet pose a severe security threat to Western democracies. The conflict in the information space is part of a broader hybrid war waged against the West by the Kremlin. In order to prevent a dystopian future, in which trolling and other information operations distort reality and undermine European societies, Western stakeholders must look for innovative ways to counter abuses of the information space.
This event will present the first detailed analysis of a specific form of civic activism in the cyberspace, the online volunteer group of the "Elves," their role in countering Russian information warfare, and why and how Western stakeholders should support similar forms of cyber activism.
