The German Marshall Fund of the United States and its Frontlines of Democracy Initiatives and the Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation in partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development invite you to join us for a panel discussion on malign Kremlin influence in connection with the recent release of USAID’s Countering Malign Kremlin Influence (CMKI) Implementation Report. USAID launched the CMKI Development Framework in July 2019 to respond to the Kremlin’s open assault on democratic and free market institutions in Europe and Eurasia, and to safeguard the hard-earned development gains of its partners. Since the launch of CMKI, USAID’s Bureau for Europe and Eurasia has sought to tailor U.S. development assistance to address the most urgent threats posed by Kremlin malign influence. Looking to 2021 and beyond, the challenges posed by malign influence continue to greatly impact development goals and the resiliency of nations targeted by Moscow. This discussion will provide an opportunity to reflect on the efforts made by USAID through the CMKI Development Framework to analyze how Moscow’s tactics are evolving, and to consider how the transatlantic community can continue to leverage development assistance to proactively counter malign Kremlin influence in the future.
