In 8 Minutes or Less: How Smart Wire Grid Uses Technology to Address Energy Security Issues
Tessa Paganini, program officer of the energy and society policy program at GMF, sat down with Jim Davis, CEO of Smart Wire Grid, to discuss the role of new technologies in addressing transatlantic energy security issues. Smart Wire Grid allows for transmission owners and operators to control the flow of power across their transmission grid as a type of power line ‘guardian.’ This technology redirects power between over- and under-utilized lines, improving reliability and efficiency and, in turn, strengthening energy security as it enables more domestically-produced energy. In addition, Jim highlighted that these smart devices have unique monitoring capabilities, capturing data that wasn’t previously accessible, which helps fight against physical or cyber-attacks.
This podcast was recorded during the Copenhagen Energy Security Dialogues, which took place on November 2, 2014.
