WASHINGTON – The German Marshall Fund is pleased to announce that 74 Marshall Memorial Fellows have been selected for the 2018-19 application cycle—40 from Europe and 34 from the United States.
The Marshall Memorial Fellowship (MMF) is GMF’s flagship leadership development program. Created in 1982 to introduce a new generation of European leaders to the United States, the program expanded in 1999 and began sending emerging leaders from the United States to Europe. GMF makes MMF awards to the best and brightest from all sectors, including business, government, and civil society. Fellows engage in six months of preparation designed to enhance their understanding of transatlantic relations before embarking on 24 days of policy immersion across the Atlantic. Today, the MMF alumni network numbers nearly 2,500 leaders.
GMF selects fellows from all 50 U.S. states and 39 European countries. These fellows join a network that includes notable alumni such as Emmanuel Macron (MMF 2006), President of France, Federica Mogherini (MMF 2007, Italy), EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Sheila Marcelo (MMF 2011, United States), Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Care.com, Nina Vaca (MMF 2004, United States), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pinnacle Technical Resources, and Annie Maxwell (MMF 2007, United States), President of the Skoll Foundation.
The Marshall Memorial Fellowship is underwritten in select regions by generous contributions from funders including the Cleveland Foundation in Cleveland, OH, the Compagnia di San Paolo for support of leadership development in Southern Europe, and the Federal Republic of Germany through the KfW.
